About Us The Liberty Ranch is a state of the art, 6500 sq. ft residential home with an additional 1100 sq. ft of space above the garage for smoking, leisure time, 12-step meetings and other recovery oriented activities
Our structure is based on the highly successful programs utilized at Liberty House and The Discovery Program in Los Angeles. Those programs are copied extensively but remain unparalled in 12-step structure that teaches participants how to apply their understanding of the AA principles of recovery into their lives. The end result is that participants recover at increased rate and achieve long term sobriety.
The structure at Liberty House and The Discovery Program is not a new method of rehabilitation, but is over 20 years old and was developed and fine tuned by the owner Larry Luttrell &Perry Petaccia from 1990 through 1994.I got sober in 1988 in a structured recovery home based on the principles of the 12-steps. Some of the structure was already in place, but was further developed and implemented by the owner, Perry Petaccia and myself after I became a manager in 1990. We tightened and polished it up and made it a working part of the house that would encourage, promote and inspire the residents to grow and change, to face reality and develop strong 12-step programs. The results have been phenomenal year after year. Read more on the Addiction Recovery page.
Both facilities structure are copied extensively and Larry has consulted with people all over Los Angeles and other parts of the country who are seeking to enter into the field of addiction medicine. We are presently consulting with some folks in the Caribbean who are entertaining the opening of a facility there to combat alcoholism and drug addiction. There are now five recovery homes in Los Angeles, and one newly opened treatment center in Palm Springs area that are operated by Liberty House Graduates. Our residents and graduates continue to celebrate continuous sobriety year after year.
The Liberty Ranch also utilizes the teaching method of Recovery Dynamics. Recovery Dynamics further adapts the existing structure into a sequence of events that enables staff to effectively present the AA recovery experience to individuals residing in the facility through book studies and meetings. This sequence of events enables the participants to effectively work the 12-steps as laid out in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. This sequencing makes The Liberty Ranch highly effective and successful and a program of action can be designed for any participant in 30, 60 or 90 day formats.
Having been built on 70 acres of gentle rolling hills and woodlands the residents of The Liberty Ranch are able to relax and focus on developing a 12-step program appropriate to their chemical dependency in a very serene and comfortable environment away from the fast paced life of city living. Recreational activities on the ranch include hiking, fishing, playing horse shoes, volleyball, basketball, and billiards. Residents also enjoy activities such as barbecues & swimming, or setting around the fire pit on logs enjoying the company of friends and loved ones while watching a beautiful sunset over the mountains.
Family members are encouraged to spend a weekend at the facility participating in their loved ones recovery while developing an understanding of alcoholism and drug addiction. The Liberty Ranch encourages family members and significant others to attend Al-Anon and other 12-step meetings in their communities.
